Kristen is the chief designer and principal client contact at Origin Wine Cellars. She also leads a team of experienced wine cellar designers whose collective expertise supports residential and commercial projects throughout South Florida. Together, they guide homeowners, architects, interior designers and builders through every stage, from the first conversation and initial concepts to material selection, technical coordination and final installation.
Her goal is to make the process feel clear, collaborative and enjoyable while creating a cellar that belongs naturally within its surroundings.
From Contemporary Homes to Custom Wine Cellars
Kristen began her design career working on modern and contemporary residences. Over more than a decade in residential design, she developed a particular appreciation for disciplined architecture: clean lines, carefully balanced proportions, natural materials and interiors in which every detail has a purpose.
That experience taught her to consider a home as a complete composition. Architecture, lighting, circulation, furniture and finishes must work together, and even a highly functional room can become one of the most memorable spaces in a residence.
Approximately six years ago, Kristen began concentrating increasingly on custom wine environments. What started as a specialist interest soon became the central focus of her work.
Wine-cellar design offered an unusual opportunity to combine the creative and technical sides of residential design. Each project required an understanding not only of aesthetics, but also refrigeration, insulation, vapor protection, glazing, lighting, bottle presentation and the practical organization of a collection.
It was a natural progression. Today, Kristen and the Origin design team specialize in wine cellars, glass wine walls and architectural bottle displays created specifically for the homes—and the people—they serve.
Designing Around the Client
Kristen begins every project by listening.
She wants to understand more than the dimensions of the available space or the number of bottles it must hold. She asks how clients collect, which wines matter most to them, how often they entertain and how they want to feel when they enter the completed room.
Some clients need a serious long-term storage environment for thousands of bottles. Others want a dramatic glass display that introduces wine into a living or dining area. Many want both: a high-capacity cellar for the broader collection and a smaller architectural installation for treasured bottles.
Kristen believes these differences should shape the design from the beginning. She considers how bottles will be organized and retrieved, which labels should be visible, whether the collection will expand and how the cellar will connect visually with the surrounding home.
The resulting design is not based on a standard formula. It is developed around the client’s collection, architecture and way of living.
Where Design Meets Engineering
A beautiful cellar must also perform.
Kristen and the design team work closely with Origin Wine Cellars’ technical partners, installers and construction teams to integrate cooling equipment, insulation, vapor barriers, glass systems, lighting and racking into one coordinated environment.
That technical collaboration is especially important in the warm, humid climate of Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. A glass-enclosed cellar must be carefully engineered to manage heat gain, moisture and condensation while maintaining stable conditions for the wine.
Kristen enjoys resolving these challenges without allowing the mechanics to dominate the finished space. Cooling equipment can be concealed. Lighting can be incorporated into architectural details. Racking can appear almost weightless. Necessary technical components become part of a disciplined design rather than visual interruptions.
The result should feel effortless, even when a considerable amount of engineering is working quietly behind it.
Why Wine-Cellar Design Is So Rewarding
What Kristen enjoys most is the personal nature of each collection.
Wine is often connected to a honeymoon, a memorable trip, an important birthday, a family tradition or an evening shared with close friends. A collection can become a record of a client’s experiences, relationships and changing tastes. Designing its setting therefore carries a particular responsibility.
“I love learning why people collect and hearing the stories behind the bottles they value most. A wine cellar can be technically complex, but it is also deeply personal. We are creating a place for something that has developed over many years and will continue evolving long after the installation is complete.”

“That is when the drawings, material samples and technical decisions finally become an experience. The room feels as though it has always belonged in the home, but it also reveals something about the people who live there. That balance is what I am always trying to achieve.”

Kristen understands that many clients commission only one custom wine cellar in their lifetime. They may know what they like visually without knowing the terminology, construction requirements or available racking and cooling options. Her role—and the role of the experienced team she leads—is to make those decisions understandable.

Clients work with Kristen and the Origin Wine Cellars design team to explore cellar location, dimensions and bottle capacity; traditional, transitional or contemporary design direction; custom cabinetry and architectural millwork; and metal, wood, acrylic or cable-based racking systems.
The team considers label-forward, neck-forward and presentation storage; glass walls, doors and freestanding enclosures; refrigeration and air distribution; insulation, vapor protection and moisture management; architectural and display lighting; tasting areas, cabinetry and collection organization.
Throughout the process, Kristen remains focused on both the overall experience and the smallest visible details while coordinating closely with the client’s architect, builder and interior designer.
